A Day in the Life of an OCC Volunteer Experience Team Member

Serve with Samaritan’s Purse as an Operation Christmas Child Volunteer Experience Team Member and you will work with thousands of employees and volunteers to help bring Jesus’ love to children around the world. The Samaritan’s Purse Volunteer Experience Team Member opportunity provides Operation Christmas Child (OCC) Processing Centers with seasonal qualified staff to help assist during the shoebox processing season of OCC.  You are acting as the hands and feet of Jesus Christ to bring joy to children, families, and communities.  You, or someone you know, may be an ideal candidate to serve in as a Volunteer Experience Team Member in one of our Processing Centers.

This is a full-time, seasonal commitment that runs from November to December.  Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and possess a desire to serve the Lord in a hands-on ministry. Positions are temporary, full-time (40+ hours per week including Saturdays). Screening requirements include social media review and pastoral/spiritual mentor screen.

Desired Skills:

  • Able to lift and/or move 50 lbs.

  • Must be a team player

  • Friendly with good communication skills

  • Customer service oriented

  • Volunteer management experience preferred

  • Ability to multi-task

A brief description of positions you may be considered for:

FLOOR COORDINATOR TEAM MEMBER:

  • Maintain a working knowledge of the open volunteer positions across all volunteer areas in the Processing Center by keeping up-to-date on volunteer needs, volunteer arrivals and departures.

  • Review daily volunteer schedule and current status of volunteer areas regularly to produce strategy of moving volunteers to different areas during appropriate times.

GEAR STORE TEAM MEMBER:

  • Facilitate sales transactions accurately for Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child branded merchandise via cash, check or credit card on an automated transaction system.

  • Ensure that each transaction is recorded correctly, guaranteeing accurate inventory and financial reporting at the end of each shift and at the end of the season.

  • Must display high levels of integrity and organization when administering daily financial reconciliation and reporting.

GIFT IN KIND TEAM MEMBER:

  • Document and complete the proper paperwork for all donated Gifts-In-Kind shoebox items coming in through the PC Drop-off location, Receiving Docks, or the front entrance.

  • Working as a team to ensure adequate supply of GIK inventory entering and exiting the Processing Teams this includes the monitoring of amount and diversity of items being used by shoebox processing teams.  Examples of this type of work may include de-packaging items, rolling clothes into smaller sizes, packaging like items together, etc.

  • Train, coach and supervise Volunteers who serve in the GIK Projects Area to prepare donated GIK items to be used by shoebox processing teams.

GREETER TEAM MEMBER:

  • Sustain a strong and outgoing personality to represent Operation Christmas Child in a positive and helpful way for the volunteers who serve in the OCC Processing Centers.

  • Keep accurate records by entering arriving volunteer numbers into the Volunteer Management System (VMS). Ensure volunteer registration form is completed properly.

  • Be available to answer questions posed by OCC Processing Center volunteers. Questions could include locations of restrooms, breakrooms, coat racks, and where to drop off shoebox gifts and/or other donated items.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT TEAM MEMBER:

  • Work with the Processing Center Administrative Associate to manage volunteer schedules through the Volunteer Management System (VMS) as calls or emails come in through the office.

PARKING TEAM MEMBER:

  • Greet and thank all OCC Processing Center Volunteers and Donors as they enter and leave the property.

  •  Direct volunteer and staff to appropriate parking areas and open spaces. Direct donors where to drop-off their donations at the Processing Center (Processing Center Dropoff).

  • Be available to answer questions posed by OCC Processing Center Volunteers and Donors. Questions could include where to park large buses/vans, directions to enter the building, or where to drop off shoebox gifts and/or other donations.

DROP-OFF COORDINATOR TEAM MEMBER:

  • Responsible for facilitating and managing the collection of gift filled shoeboxes from donors and volunteers at the OCC Processing Center’s Drop-off Location.

  • Sustain a self-assured and hospitable personality to represent Operation Christmas Child in a positive and helpful way for the volunteers and donors who come to drop off gift-filled shoeboxes to the OCC Processing Centers.

  • With each donor or volunteer, assist in the unloading of shoebox gifts, verify the quantity donated, and record the verified number of shoebox gifts and donor information on the Shoebox Drop-off Log.

  •  Be open and willing to pray for and with shoebox donors.

  •  Train, coach, and supervise OCC Processing Center Volunteers serving in the OCC Processing Center Drop-off.

TEAM COACH: 

  • Responsible for working with the OCC Processing Center Floor Managers to facilitate and supervise designated areas of activity within OCC Processing Center Teams including volunteer supervision, security issues, pre-inspection activity, product movement and processing, and all other aspects contained within OCC Processing Center Teams.

  • Being friendly, welcoming, and personable to volunteers while helping them have a fun, productive, and memorable experience at the OCC Processing Center.

  • Responsible for coaching and supervising up to 30 volunteers within the Processing Team area.

VOLUNTEER PLACER TEAM MEMBER: 

  • Responsible for working with the OCC Processing Center Floor Coordinator, Quality Control Manager(s), and Floor Managers to implement the placement plan of volunteers within the Processing Center.

  • Sustain a strong and outgoing personality to represent Operation Christmas Child in a positive and helpful way for the temporary associates and thousands of volunteers that come to the OCC Processing Centers.

  • Take direction from the OCC Processing Center Floor Coordinator to deliver volunteers effectively to the designated area of service.

FOR ALL POSITIONS:

  • Keep work area clean and neat. Assist with trash and broken pallet disposal.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Must be multi-task oriented and display proven organizational skills.
